Persis Khambatta


Persis Khambatta is BowerGroupAsia’s managing director for South Asia. She manages BGA’s relationship with key clients across the Indo-Pacific and also coordinates the company’s client work in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Nepal. She previously worked with the Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Washington, D.C.’s first think tank program dedicated specifically to U.S.-India policy. She helped build the program from its inception and served as permanent fellow for three years. Her principal areas of expertise include South Asia’s economic development and political-economic affairs. Her columns have appeared in the Times of India, Economic Times, the Nepal Economic Forum and various business publications.

Persis previously worked for the Asia Foundation in Washington, D.C., where she was responsible for designing and implementing programs in Washington and Asia with a focus on South and Southeast Asian affairs. She helped design and implement projects and research reports that provided key inputs to policy makers in Washington, New Delhi and other Asian capitals. She has also lived in Mumbai, India and Yokohama, Japan.

Persis holds a M.A. in international affairs from the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University and a B.A. in political science from the University of California at San Diego. She also attended Meiji Gakuin University in Japan, focusing on Asian security and economic affairs. A Palo Alto native, she has lived in Washington, D.C. since 2000 and she and her husband are the proud parents of two amazing children and their hound dog Coco.
